House Merch Is Having a Moment (And Your Home Should Have Some)

A comment stopped me mid-scroll recently. A woman on TikTok, talking about her own home brand, said this:

"House merch is soooo much fun!! I have tshirts, car coozies, eyeglass cloths, jars of matches, keychains and stickers!!! I need to make bags! I make goat milk soap so that is likely my next project..."

That's not a business plan. That's someone who named her home, picked her colors, and then just kept going, because once a home has an identity, it turns out you want to put it on things.

This is the natural next chapter after everything else in the Kit. You've got a name, a color, maybe a scent. Merch is just that identity, made portable.

Why this actually works

It's the same instinct as the guest treat or the keepsake. Something small, branded, and yours that people carry out the door. The difference is merch doesn't get eaten or used up. A sticker on a laptop, a keychain on someone's car. Your home's name is quietly traveling around long after the visit ends.

Where to start (cheap, in order of effort)

You don't need all of this. Pick one.

Nearly free

Stickers. A house name or a simple line drawing of your home, printed through a site like Sticker Mule or even a local print shop, costs pennies at volume.

Jars of matches. Rebottle plain strike anywhere matches in a labeled apothecary jar. Genuinely one of the cheapest, most loved options, and it doubles as a guest treat adjacent gift.

Low effort, a little cost

Eyeglass cloths and coozies. Print-on-demand sites (Printful, Printify) will produce these one at a time with no inventory to store, so you're not sitting on 200 car coozies in your garage.

Keychains. Etsy has affordable small-batch makers if you don't want to DIY.

More involved, more personal

T-shirts. Same print-on-demand route, or a local shop if you want to hold quality in your hands first.

A house-made product. This is the interesting one. The commenter above makes goat milk soap and is turning that into house merch. If you already make something, candles, soap, jam, packaging it under your home's name turns a hobby into your most memorable keepsake yet.

Keep it on brand, not just on sale

The whole point of everything in the Kit is that it's consistent. The same name, the same color, the same feeling every time. Merch is no different. Before you order anything:

  • Use your signature color as the base palette for every item
  • Put your house name front and center. Resist the urge to add too much else
  • If you have a home portrait or simple logo mark from the Kit, that's your merch artwork. Don't design something new from scratch

Start small

You genuinely don't need a shop. A jar of matches by the door and a sticker sheet for guests who ask is merch. If it grows from there, like it clearly has for the reader who inspired this post, you'll know, because people will start asking where they can buy one.
